American Car Nationals Incorporating Canberra Chrysler Day

26/09/2010 (All day)

The American Car Nationals is a static display of American Classic Cars of yesteryear. The event is held annually at the Queanbeyan Showground on the last Sunday in September. The origin of the American Car Nationals goes back to 1991 when a group of enterprising members of the American Car Club of Australia Inc. had the vision of an annual event where enthusiasts of American cars could meet to discuss their hobby and display their dream machines. In subsequent years the numbers have grown to more than 260 superbly presented American vehicles in 40 judging categories and Canberra Chrysler Day is now a regular and important feature of the Nationals, to include Australian Chryslers. The American Car Club of Australia Inc. has close links with the Shannon's Insurance Group who will again be the major sponsor of the event. Local businesses in the ACT and Queanbeyan have also been most supportive.

Owning an almost audacious amount of coastline, Belize's geographic location is given to diverse travelling. The entire coast is sidelined by a barrier reef, making for exceptional diving opportunities.
But head a little inland and you will discover many more attractions.
Hundreds of Mayan ruins have been discovered in Belize's heartland and well organized tours make these fantastic sites to visit, their attraction accentuated by enjoyable nature trips.

Unfortunately, Belize remains a somewhat difficult country to travel around.
Apart from a handful of established tourist attractions, Belize is yet to fully realize its spectacular potential as a crowd drawer.
In the meantime, much of Belize is still for the hardy traveller.

Airport

Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport is an airport that serves Belize's largest city, Belize City. It was named for now-deceased politician Phillip Stanley Wilberforce Goldson.
The airport will be going through major expansions such as the lengthening of the runway, expanding of the apron and expansion of the terminal.
These expansions are made mainly to handle more planes and for the airport to bring in flights from Europe.
The expansions are planned to be completed in time for 2015.

Philip S. W. Goldson is at an altitude of 5 metres and this means that both the airport and the entirety of Belize City are at risk of serious flooding due to its low elevation and coastal location.

For this reason, Belize's capital has been moved to Belmopan, but Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport remains the largest and busiest in the country.

Philip S. W. Goldson is about 30 minutes drive from Belize City's centre, in Ladyville. The best way to get to and from the city centre is via taxi. Although an airport bus service exists, it is very infrequent and unreliable.

Dhaka is the capital of Bangladesh and as one of the most crowded countries in the world, it comes as little surprise that their capital also fits that bill. Home to some 12 million people, Dhaka is a hectic, polluted and congested city where you constantly find yourself bumping into people.
And it's not just people that are plentiful - Dhaka also holds the world record for number of rickshaws in a city, something that adds a flash of color to the endless rivers of chaos that make up Dhaka's streets.

Dhaka has been developing fast as a modern city, much in contrast to the rest of Bangladesh, and it has clearly become the country's hub of economic, educational and political activity.
That doesn't mean that everyone living in Dhaka has been able to ride it's growth, if anything the gap between poor and rich is most obvious here where just a few minutes ride in a rickshaw will allow you to experience both sides first hand.
For visitors the destination would be considered cheap by most standards.

Airport

Zia International Airport is the largest airport in Bangladesh located in Kurmitola, 11 NM (20 km; 13 mi) north of Dhaka, with Dhaka Cantonment on one side and Uttara Residential Area on the other.
It started operations in 1981, and was named after Bangladesh's former president, Ziaur Rahman. It is the home base and hub of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, GMG Airlines and United Airways (Bangladesh).

It has an area of 1,981 acres (802 ha). Nearly 52% of the country's international and domestic arrivals and departures occur through Zia Airport, while country's second largest international airport at Chittagong handles about 17% of passengers. About 4 million international and 1 million domestic passengers and 150,000 tons of freight and mail pass through Zia International Airport annually.

Zia Airport has terminal buildings, hangars, technical areas, a freight village, and other modern equipment for handling aircraft.
It connects many major cities of the world with Bangladesh. From here, Biman Bangladesh flies to 21 cities on 2 continents.

As the Middle East's only island state, Bahrain is unique from its fellow Gulf nations for its lush environment. The Sumerian civilization saw Bahrain as a holy island, as did the Babylonians.
Modern-day musings that it may have been the site of the Garden of Eden perpetuate this image further.

In truth, however, development has put the environment under some strain and the land is not quite as lush as it used to be.

Bahrain's long past and involvement in Middle East history saw it pass through Dilmun, Assyrian, Babylonian, Greek, Portugese and Persian hands before hitting its stride as an independent nation in the 19th century.
Since independence, Bahrain has propelled its economy forward with oil, but has diversified its economic basis, ensuring a long-term stability.
Bahrain's modern capital, Manama, highlights the nation's prosperity. Elsewhere, most Bahrainis stick to a fairly traditional, conservative way of life.

Airport

Bahrain International Airport is an international airport located in Muharraq, an island on the northern tip of Bahrain, about 7 km (4 miles) northeastern the centre of the capital Manama.
It is the primary hub for Gulf Air and Bahrain Air.

A BD113m ($300 million) expansion and refurbishment program was launched in the third quarter of 2006 which will see the creation of a new multi-storey car park and retail complex adjacent to the main terminal building.
The expansion also includes a full resurfacing of the main runway, a new perimeter fence, state-of-the-art security systems and additional aircraft parking bays. Runway 12R/30L is mostly used as a taxiway.

The airport has a three star rating from Skytrax's airport grading exercise along with seven other airports.

City

Vienna is Austria's largest city, by a stretch. With a population around the 1.7 million mark, Vienna is the nation's central hub, as well as capital city. Besides being the capital of the country it is also a bundesland (province) on it's own.
But it is also a culturally significant landmark in the heart of Europe, celebrating a rich tradition in theatre, opera and classical music. Two of Europe's best known composers, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Johann Strauss, left an indelible mark on Vienna. The same is true for the works of Gustav Klimt and his fellow jugendstill artists.
A whole line of architects including father and son Fischer von Erlach, Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt and Otto Wagner, shaped the city into how it looks today.

The city for ages was the capital of the Holy Roman Empire, and the Habsburg dynasty.
The numerous palaces that can be found in the city tell of a history of a city and a country that used to a powerhouse in Middle and Eastern European politics.
Given its historical significance, it is of little surprise that Vienna's city centre has been listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site for its Baroque and Medieval architecture

Airport

Vienna International Airport (IATA: VIE, ICAO: LOWW) (German: Flughafen Wien), located in Schwechat and 18 kilometres (11 mi) southeast of central Vienna, is the busiest and biggest airport in Austria.
It is often referred to as Schwechat, the name of the nearby town.

The airport is capable of handling wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 747 and Airbus A340. The airport is the hub of Austrian Airlines and its subsidiaries, as well as budget airline Niki.

The city has been Albania's capital since 1920.

City

Kabul (Persian: کابل) is the capital and largest city in Afghanistan and has about 3 million inhabitants. It is located in the central eastern part of the country in a valley at an altitude of about 1800 meters, with the nearby Hindu Kush mountains towering above the city in the distance.
It is believed that the city has been inhabited since at least 3500 years and nowadays it is the economical and cultural heart of the country. Although the city saw relatively many travellers before the Soviet invasion during the late seventies, since then number have declined significantly.

Nowadays, few travellers make it to this ancient city but the adventurous people who travel overland from Pakistan are rewarded with some great experience. The National Museum and the narrow alleys filled with bazaars are the main features of Kabul.

Airport

Kabul International Airport, also known as Khwaja Rawash Airport, is located 16 kilometers (9 miles) from the city center of Kabul, Afghanistan. The airport is also commonly referred to as KAIA.
Kabul International Airport was built in the early 1960s at a time when Afghanistan was becoming modernised and catching up with the rest of the nations in the world.

At first, Kabul Airport was only for the United States armed forces and the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), a NATO-led peacekeeping force.
After the removal of UN sanctions, in early 2002, it was finally allowed to be used for civilian airlines. The US military and ISAF (with the Romanian Air Force a lead contributor in 2005) run the military section of the airport and provide security there.
The Afghan National Police and Afghan National Army are in control of security inside and around the airport.
